The card is much easier to carry and keep track of than tokens/tickets, and being able to reload electronically is a huge bonus as well. So for anyone living in Toronto or even someone who just plans on visiting a reasonable amount, PRESTO is the way to go.
How much is a Toronto PRESTO card?
When you buy your PRESTO card online it will take 7-10 business days to arrive. Get your PRESTO card for $6, plus a minimum load of $0.05. Once received, activate your card and start tapping.
How long does a PRESTO card last?
The 30-day expiry period is designed to manage the number of transactions stored on devices in order to guarantee proper functioning of the system. If you don't tap your card on a PRESTO device within 30 days of any transaction, with the exception of transit passes, it will expire.
Does PRESTO have a fee?
The full fare is charged automatically when you tap on to a default trip so you do not have to tap off. You can set up a default trip through the PRESTO App, or in person by visiting a GO Customer Service Outlet.

Do I tap my PRESTO card when I get off the bus?
Once you've arrived, tap your card OFF to the Fare Payment Device as you exit the bus. The PRESTO system will debit or credit your card for the balance of that trip. If you forget to tap off, you will be charged to the end of that bus route, as PRESTO will not know where you got off.
Do you need to activate PRESTO card?
If you ordered your card online and created an account at the same time, it must be activated before it can be used. Do you have to tap off Presto on TTC?
Q: Do I need to tap off when I exit the subway or a TTC or YRT bus? A: No. However, if you are transferring from the subway to a TTC, YRT or GO bus/train, you will need to tap on when you board the bus or train. You only need to tap off when you are riding a GO train or GO bus as their fares are determined by distance.

What's stupid about this is the Post Secondary Student 1 (for GO Transit) produces a concession noise when it's tapped on TTC presto reader but charges full adult fare. If tapped on a new streetcar reader, it produces a transfer showing "PS1" instead of adult.
